Postjunctional stimuli in bronchial hyperresponsiveness

Prejunctional and postjunctional factors in bronchial responsiveness

"Postjunctional" stimuli lead to smooth muscle contraction. These structures are often both hypertrophic and hyperplastic. An enhanced contraction may be amplified by increased activity of actomyosine-ATP-ase due to the inflammatory process; this leads to greater velocity of shortening and increased maximal muscle shortening.
