In order to properly assess bronchodilator responsiveness, ideally all bronchodilator drugs should have been stopped for as long as they are effective, so that a proper initial value can be established. This holds for short- and long-acting bronchodilator drugs administered by inhalation, but equally for orally administered drugs such as theophyllines and anti-leukotrienes. In practice this is usually not feasible. In that case, make a note of when and what dose the patient used last.
